Community Event
Portraits of Pride
Marshall, MN
June 14
Portraits of Pride is a welcoming, artist-led community portrait experience inviting participants to slow down, observe themselves, and create a self-portrait in a relaxed outdoor setting. Using mirrors, drawing materials, and guided encouragement, participants are invited to explore creative self-expression through drawing, no experience necessary.
The project is designed to create a thoughtful, low-pressure art activity focused on identity, reflection, and creativity in a comfortable community environment. Participants will have the opportunity to take their artwork home, and optional photos may be taken to document the collaborative experience.
Hosted June 14 at the Lyon County Fairgrounds.

A fun and energetic observational drawing class where kids explore movement through art! Participants will practice quick gesture drawings inspired by dance poses and motion, learning how to capture action, expression, and flowing lines. This class encourages creativity, confidence, and looking closely at how the body moves while keeping the experience playful and beginner-friendly.

June 24, 10 AMJoin artist and teaching artist SammyJo Miller for a relaxed and inspiring conversation about what it’s really like to build a creative career in a rural community. SammyJo will share experiences from public art projects, mural work, teaching, publishing a children’s book, and running a working art business, along with the creative challenges and opportunities that come with it. Teens will have the chance to ask questions, explore creative career paths, and gain insight into the day-to-day life of a working artist.

Exhibit Opening
Of Light & Flight

Join artist SammyJo Miller for Light and Flight, an exhibition exploring movement, transformation, imagination, and moments of illumination through a wide range of subjects and mediums. Blending poetic storytelling with expressive imagery, the collection invites viewers to reflect on both literal and emotional interpretations of light and flight; from birds and travelers to dancers, memory, and wonder.
Opening Reception:
July 10, 6–8 PM
Jackson Center for the Arts
The evening will include an opportunity to meet the artist, view new work, and celebrate the opening of the exhibition.
