About the Artist

SammyJo Miller

a Minnesota visual artist whose practice spans studio art, public art, illustration, and arts education. Working across charcoal, drawing, painting, and mixed media, her work explores observation, storytelling, and the connections between people, place, and the natural world.

Based in southwestern Minnesota, Miller develops independent studio collections alongside collaborative public art projects and educational experiences for libraries, schools, museums, and community organizations. Whether creating a large-scale mural, an exhibition of charcoal drawings, or a hands-on community workshop, her work is rooted in the belief that art has the power to encourage curiosity, creativity, and meaningful human connection.

Miller is the author and illustrator of the children’s book I Have a Plan and has received recognition for both her artistic practice and community engagement, including the Prairie Disciple Award from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council. Her work has been exhibited throughout Minnesota and continues to evolve through new studio collections, public art commissions, and collaborative creative projects.

Through each aspect of her practice, Miller seeks to create experiences that invite people to slow down, observe the world more closely, and discover the extraordinary within everyday moments.
